Biography

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kerieva (pronounced Ker-ree-ay-va) blows away most peoples’ preconceptions of her roots as she presents a refreshing twist on Romani (Gypsy) influenced contemporary music.
She has been described as the Romani reincarnation of X-Ray Spex’s Poly Styrene and has also been compared to artists such as PJ Harvey, Bjork, Mitsou and Ari Up of The Slits.

Kerieva’s unnervingly honest, upbeat and darkly humorous lyrics are delivered by her bruisingly powerful voice in RomanĂ©s (the Gypsy language), English and Spanish.

In her live show you can expect to see her play a variety of instruments including Harmonium, ‘Cello and Violin, and if the mood takes her, kick out a few flamenco dance moves. This unique mix, combined with strings performed by Salvadorian ‘cellist Tania Lopez Bran, gives her show a fiery intensity.

She is currently in the studio recording her eagerly awaited third album with visionary producer and On-U Sound label founder Adrian Sherwood (Lee ‘Scratch ‘Perry, Sinead O’Connor, Coldcut).
As part of Alchemy festival 2012, Kerieva will be performing her live set as support act to Asian Dub Foundation at Royal Festival Hall, on Thursday 12th April. She will also be singing live with ADF as part of their set.
